Excellent post on the whole ‘Apple collecting your location data’ brouhaha. A must-read. The hard reality is that there’s only one way to guarantee privacy with a cell phone: Remove the battery. via The Raw Feed

The Mountain →
cameronmoll: I won’t even attempt to fumble with adjectives. Just watch. Terje Sorgjerd: A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes. Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene...

FOUT-B-Gone →
A Flash of unstyled type (FOUT) is an instance where web fonts appear briefly unstyled prior to loading @font-face. After the web page appears, the viewer sees unstyled fonts morph into styled web fonts. Web ink wrote a nice little javascript plugin that helps deal with the fout issue in ie (ALL versions) and firefox 3.5-6. It has officially become a non issue. Check it out. Gotta use this on...

The Hobbit: Filming at 48 fps →
cameronmoll: I tweeted about this earlier, but it’s worth repeating here so I can excerpt a few highlights. On Facebook, director Peter Jackson describes why 24 fps (frames per second) — the standard frame rate used in nearly every major motion picture — is an antiquated practice: Originally, 24 fps was chosen based on the technical requirements of the early sound era. I suspect it was the...

CodeAires - Biggest High School Regret Ever →
CodeAires is a great wee writer. Here are the two first paragraphs: The biggest regret of my High School years was letting my life and happiness be dictated by an asshole and his snobby friends, all because I was in love with the guy and had some intuitive notion that we were “meant to be together”. I won’t mention him by name, so I’m just going to call him “Dude”. Me and Dude had gone to the...

A Bacterium That Acts Like a Toothbrush
shrooooom:                                    Researchers have identified a new ally in the war against tooth decay: an enzyme produced by a mouth bacterium that prevents plaque formation. The finding could eventually lead to the development of toothpaste that harnesses the body’s own plaque-fighting tools.  Click on picture to read more… The future is awesome
